Allie May Bruce McCabe daughter of Mr. & Mrs. A.A. Bruce was born at the home near Venus, Octorber 23rd, 1888 and died in Sioux City, October 6th, 1917 at aged 29 years, 11 months and 13 days. Nine years ago she was united in marriage to Raymond McCabe. To this union was born one son Robert, now nearly 3 years old, who with the husband, father, mother and 5 brothers, Wm., Earl, Irvie, Robert and Lee, are left to mourn her untimely death. She, with her husband and son were living in Wyo. where Mr. McCabe was employed in a hardware store. She came home about a month ago to consult a physician and was advised to go to Sioux City where she underwent an operation for tumor and internal adhesion. It did not prove successful, and altho she was operated on a second time it was of no avail and she passed away in spite of all that could be done to save her.
May was a girl who was loved and esteemed by all who knew her, and the whole community deeply sympathizes with the relatives in their great sorrow.
They did not succeed in getting word to her brother Irvin who lives in South Dakota but the rest of the family were present at the funeral which was held at the home, Monday afternoon and interment was made at the Lambert cemetery.
The deceased seemed to have more than her share of suffering during her short life, beside the last illness she met with a very bad accident soon after her marriage, which for a time was thought would prove fatal. A shotgun was accidentally discharged and the charge of shot passsed through her wrist and entered her stomach, even taking particles of the clothing into the internal organs, but by the careful and patient hands of the attending physicians and nurse she survived all right.
