Lyman D. Bruce, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Bruce, was born in Fayette county, Iowa, June 15, 1860 and departed this life May 26, 1924, at Middlebranch, Nebraska, age 63 years, 11 months and 11 days.
He grew to manhood at his place of birth receiving his early education at the county school, finishing at the Uppia, Iowa University at Fayette, Iowa. Took up the occupation of farming and in 1887 went to western part of Nebraska where he resided until 1917 when he came to Middle Branch to make his home with his sister, Mrs. Genie Waring.
He leaves to mourn their loss, three sisters, Mrs. Waring, of Middle Branch, Mrs. Carrie Bonney of Lamont, Iowa, Mrs. Hattie Jenney of Lamont, Iowa. Besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
Relatives from a distance, Mrs. A.A. Bruce, of LaPort, Colorado, Mrs. W.E. Bruce, of Geneva, Nebraska, and Mrs. E. C. Carter, and family, of Bruning, Nebraska. Uncle Lyman "as he was commonly called" by all his friends and neighbors was one of the finest men and the most patient during his illness. He always ready to help any neighbor that was in need, and went a great many times when he was not able and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
