PROMINENT CITIZEN CALLED TO HIS REWARD

Again the city of Wauneta and surrounding community mourns the departure of another of our well known citizens. For
forty seven years he resided in Chase Co. seventeen of those years an active business man of this city. During his business career his contacts with the public was over a wide range and his friendship had a wide circle. Of an active energetic nature he was soon engaged in civic and community interests. The people soon recognized his ability and through their suffrage served six years on the village board, three of those years as mayor of Wauneta. He was active also in the educational and religious life of the city.As a teacher for several years in school he brought with him a practical and active interest to the development and progress of education in this town. The present church building of the Methodist church will stand as a reminder of his interest and activity in its erection. His name with others is deposited in the corner stone of the building as a member of the building committee. In Fraternal organizations, his ability and leadership was also recognized, holding the honorable position of Past Noble Grand in the I.O.O.F. He was also Master of Wauneta Lodge A.F.and A.M. and a member of King Cyrus Chapter of Royal Arch Masons at McCook, Nebraska. Recognition also came to him in the political realm and for some time he was the Republican committeeman for this county and was Waunets's precinct assessor at the time of his death.
Clarence Walker will be remembered by his friends and neighbors not only because of his contacts in a business way, but because of his friendly spirit and his kind heart. He was interested in people and one of the joys of his life was to meet them and enjoy their companionship. His contributions to the community interests will not be forgotten, his presence and friendly smile on our streets will be missed.
Clarence Glen walker, son of Sayers B. and Louretta Walker was born in Brown Co, Ohio, May 29, 1881 and departed this life August 6, 1933, at his home in Wauneta, Nebraska Age 52 years 2 months and 7 days.
He moved with his parents to Chase Co. in 1886. He received his education in the rural schools of this county and the Wauneta High School. He also attended Fremont college, now known as Midland college. For several terms he taught in the schools of this county.
He was united in marriage to May F. Snider, June 3, 1906 and to this union were born two children, Arlene who survives, and a son who died in infancy. He farmed after his marriage until January 1916 when he bought an interest in the Wauneta Lumber Company which he managed until his illness caused him to resign.
During the ministry of S.B. Thomas he was baptized and received into the Methodist Church. During all of these years and preceding his association with the church he was a liberal supporter of the same. That was a responsibility he never evaded.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, May, and daughter, Arlene, four brothers, George L., Clyde L., Otto, and Frank E., and one sister, Pearl Brannan with many other relatives and friends.
Our loved one has gone, leaving years unlived, that we hoped would be our share, But God has taken them in His hands, to be spent in peace over there.
Funeral Services are being held today, Wednesday, at the M.E. Church with Rev. Richard Gibb officiating, and C.E. Johnston, as funeral director.
Business houses will all be closed during the hours of the funeral.
