Sussie Phipps was born February 25, 1924, in Mentor, Minnesota the daughter of LeRoy and Elodie (Ely) Phipps. Sussie was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in St. James, MN. She graduated from St. James High School, class of 1942. Sussie married Willis Kuhlman on August 25, 1946 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Sussie and Willis lived on the family farm in Fieldon Township, (near Lewisville) MN until 2004. Sussie was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church where she served as a Confirmation instructor, Sunday School teacher and a Ladies Aid member. After moving to St. James she became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting, playing bridge, golfing and watching sports, but most of all spending time with her family. Sussie was a servant to others, volunteering at hospice and the Care Pregnancy Center.
Survivors include her children Margaret (Gary) Geilenfeldt of Beavercreek, OH, Douglas (Rhonda) Kuhlman of Madison Lake, MN, Donald (Jane) Kuhlman of St. James, Robert (Laura) Kuhlman of Portage, Ml, David (Erin) Kuhlman ofThorp, Wl, grandchildren; Garrett Geilenfeldt, Garth (Shannon) Geilenfeldt, Prudence (Todd) Tetzloff, Stephanie (Ryan) Reid, Nicholas Kuhlman, Katherine (Paul) Simonson, Lewis Kuhlman, Alexandra (Willie) Clay, James Kuhlman, Jessica (Jason) Scheffers, Kristen Kuhlman, Bennett (Lindsay) Kuhlman, Briana Kuhlman and Jean Kuhlman. Great-grandchildren; Miranda and Samantha Tetzloff, Dylan, Halle and Morgan Reid, Camilla Clay and Emmie Scheffers. Sisters, Mollie Kuhlman, and Gladys (Leslie) Lewis, and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Shaw. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis, her parents, her sister Marie Thomas and brothers, Alfred Phipps, Frederick Phipps, and Warren Phipps, and two sisters in infancy.
