"Obituary -- Died, Wednesday, March 3, 1875, Yancy L. McCaughan, in the thirty-seventh year of his age. This was a sudden and unexpected death, which was caused by his falling on the frozen ground with a log of wood on his shoulder. The shock produced fracture of the skull and internal hemorrhage, and death followed in sixteen hours. Brother McCaughan was a peaceable neighbor, a useful man, and above all, a humble Christian. He was born and reared in North Carolina, and he had lived in Greenwood county about eight years. The deceased leaves a widow and two children to mourn his loss. May the Providence who has afflicted them bring them safely home at last."
