Rob (not Robert) Roy Routh was born March 1935 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Ross and Fay Campbell Routh, the first of four sons. His childhood was marked by his father's military service in the Oklahoma 45th Division Army National Guard, a path of service Rob followed as an adult. He was a career soldier serving almost four decades in the Army, Active Guard, and Reserve. Rob returned to college later in life, even sharing time on campus with his oldest daughter, June. He was the proudest (and maybe oldest) member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1978, starting an ongoing tradition of Routh family Aggie grads (Todd Routh '86, Stephanie Duprie Routh '93, Nicole McAfee '12, Hannah McAfee Lindemann '14, Emily McAfee Agee '20, Allie Routh '26). He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1989, just in time to enjoy a second career as a beloved grandfather.

Rob was a graduate of the Oklahoma Military Academy and a Bronze Star recipient. But maybe his proudest role was serving as Nandad to Nicole, Hannah, and Emily, Grandpa to Eddie, Eli, and Tiphani, Bull to Zac, Allie, and Ava, and Great-Nandad to the apple of his eye, Lucy. He was never especially verbose, but he always let his grandkids know how proud he was of them and how much he loved them. That love was shown in shared afternoon naps, tv time in Nandad's recliner, and often over a gallon of Blue Bell Cherry Vanilla ice cream.

Rob met his wife of more than 64 years, Pat, in the break room of the 45th Division office where they both worked. Their marriage was an adventure that started in 1958 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Oklahoma City, and took them around the world and on many an all night drive to get to drill or a military school. Together, they raised four incredible kids, June, Robin, Todd, and Clay.

In his retirement, Rob called Austin, TX home. He was generous in spirit. An early adopter of computers, he eagerly helped many a National Guard member with technology support, well into his retirement. He spent many of the last several decades cruising with family around the world. He was well known for his colorful socks, patterned shirts that were often accidentally color coordinated with his wife's outfits, and love of wordsearches and The Big Bang Theory.

Rob passed away February 17, 2023 after days of being surrounded by family who had traveled across the country to say a too-soon goodbye. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brigadier General Ross Holland Routh and Fay Campbell Routh, beloved brother Donald Kent Routh, and niece Rebecca Routh Coon. He leaves behind an extended family and community that will dearly miss him, including his wife Pat McVeigh Routh, children June Routh, Robin Routh McAfee and Mark McAfee, Todd Routh and Stephanie Duprie Routh, and Clay Routh and Gina Soto Routh, grandkids Nicole McAfee and Andrew Sherrill, Hannah McAfee Lindemann and Clark Lindemann, Emily McAfee Agee and Daniel Agee, Zac Routh, Allie Routh, and Ava Routh, great granddaughter Lucy Lindemann, brother Alan Routh and wife Rungnapa Routh, brother Jon Routh, and extended family Lauri Routh and Mike Hayduke, Sofia Routh Dreves and Nick Dreves, Dax Routh and Courtney Wright Routh, Xan Routh, Christopher Routh, Nicholas Routh, Jon Routh, and Alexandra Routh.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rob Roy Routh Family Scholarship Endowment through the OMA Alumni Association at Rogers State University (contributions can be made by contacting Danette Boyle Executive Director OMA Alumni Association at 918-343-6888 or [email protected] or via check ? Danette Boyle OMA Alumni Association 1701 W. Will Rogers Blvd Claremore, OK 74017), Oklahoma Military Academy Boots on the Hill, the Texas A&M Foundation, or the Alzheimer's Association.

You can best celebrate Rob by enjoying a good nap or sharing some ice cream with the people you love. Rob Routh will be buried at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, TX in a small graveside service attended by family. Details on a memorial service to celebrate the life of Rob Routh will be announced at a later date.
