Funeral services for Carlton C. Cunningham of Mesquite were held Monday, Jan. 31 at 1 P.M. in Pemberton Funeral Chapel. Rev. Mark Wil- burn officiated, with interment in Memoryland Memorial Park, Greenville. His nephews served as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Mike and M.L. Pike.

Cunningham was born in Hopkins County on Dec. 1, 1921 to James and Lula Ann Smith Cunningham. On July 18, 1942 he married Virginia Hunnicutt in Commerce. They lived in Commerce, later moving to Pleasant Grove and then to Mesquite.

He served in the United States Infantry during World War II. He was a member of the North Ridge Baptist Church in Mesquite. Cunningham was a mechanic and was formerly employed at Callier Company in Dallas for 30 years. He retired in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include, his wife Virginia of Mesquite; sister, Virgie Speight of Fairlie; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
