DELILAH (SAUNDERS/SANDERS) COMMONS
Delilah Saunders/Sanders was the daughter of Susannah "Susan" (Taylor) and John Saunders. She was born about Sept 28, 1819 in Virginia. She was the 1st wife of Enos Commons, son of Nathan & Martha (Beard) Commons. They were married about 1838 in Wayne County, Indiana. Enos & Delilah had a son; Nathan Commons, born September 5, 1839, in Wayne County.

Sometime after the 1840 census, Enos and his family moved to Mercer County, Illinois, along with other Beard descendants and Enos' sister Hannah.

Enos & Delilah Commons had additional 4 children in Mercer County, Illinois: Louisa J. Commons, b. 5/27/1841, d. 8/12/1841; Twins, John Commons & Martha Commons, b. & d. 10/7/1849 (they share one small tombstone); and Jasper Commons, born 11/31/1843.

In the 1850 census the family is living in the Mannon area of New Boston Township, Mercer County, IL; Enos 30 Farmer, wife Delilah 30 keeping house, son Nathan 11, son Jasper 6 and Delilah's younger brother, William Sanders is living with them helping on the farm. Just two years after the census Delilah dies on 3 June 1852 leaving Enos with two young sons; Nathan 12 and Jasper 8. She is buried in the Mannon Cemetery along with their three small children who died in the 1840's. After her death, widower Enos Commons re-married to widow Margaret (Myers) Clark, daughter of Col Andrew and Mary (Lloyd) Myers on 9/28/1852 in Mercer County.

About 1871, Enos, along with sons Nathan and Jasper Commons went to Harvey County, Kansas, with the Prouty Wagon Train and many other Mercer County families. Enos and family are found in the 1880 census in Emma Township, Kansas. He died on Jan 4, 1895 in Newton, Harvey County, Kansas. He is Buried in the Oretown Cemetery; Oretown, Tillamook County, Oregon.

Son Nathan went on to Portland, Oregon where he died May 8, 1916. Son Jasper ended up in Washington where he died on 6/10/1923 in King County.
