Rev. Lavender was born Dec. 5, 1916 in Crowell, Texas and moved to the Neosho area in 1990 from Carnegie, Okla. He served in the Army Signal Corp during World War II, serving 1941-1945. He was a minister of the Pentecostal faith, played music at local nursing homes and attended the Church of Hope.
A.W. and Myrtle (Ponder) were married on Oct. 20, 1945 in Wichita Falls, Texas and shared 62 years together. Myrtle survives and additional survivors include four children, Betty Sumner and Carol Beckett, Neosho; Bud Lavender and wife, Sherry, Vinita, Okla. and Janice Lavender, Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, Gene Lavender and wife, Joyce, of the state of Iowa; two sisters, Edith Wilson, Electra, Texas and Helen Talbert and husband, Eddie, Ft. Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Dr. Jerry Seigel and Rev. Malcom Mosby will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hazel Green Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Matt Lavender, Jon Lavender, Jessie Beckett, Tanner Delantonia, Joe Hingle, Jody Hingle and Jack Bowyer.
Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
