Obituary
CANKTON ~ Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 9, 2023 at a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Berchmans Roman Catholic Church in Cankton for Shirlein Savoy, age 81, the former Shirlein Roger, who passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at her residence in Sunset.

Interment will be in St. John Berchmans Cemetery in Cankton. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, will officiate at the services.

Mrs. Savoy was a native of Cankton and a resident of Sunset. She was employed with Willards Thrifty Way Pharmacy in Church Point for thirty-eight devoted years. A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church.

Mrs. Savoy was the matriarch of her family. She was an incredible cook, and was happiest when her family was together over dinner or the many family events she loved to host. Her greatest joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren, they were her heart and brought her so much joy. Her love for them lead her to retire to help raise her great granddaughter, Kennedi. When she was not cooking, or hosting family and friends, she enjoyed planting and piddling in her flower beds.

Her loving, nurturing and serving heart will be terribly missed by her family. The impact she left on each of their lives is tremendous and she is now resting in the arms of the Lord.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-five years, Hilton Savoy of Sunset; two sons, Kavin Savoy and his wife, Angela, of Sunset and Dwayne Savoy and his wife, Lisa, of Cankton; three daughters, Phyllis LeBlanc and her husband, "Pap", of Port Barre, Vanessa Cormier and her husband, Felix, of Sunset and Connie Cormier and her husband, David, of Sunset; thirteen grandchildren, Brennon Cormier (Chelsie), Damian Cormier (Lori), Danielle Labbie (Chad), Megan Welch, Matthew Savoy (Leah), Dylan Savoy (Ashley), Skyla Doucet (Travis), Kalyn Cormier (Robin), Andrea Cormier (Chris), Cassie Venable James (Jeremy), Matthew Leblanc (Summer), Haley Leblanc (JC), and Tyler Leblanc; thirty-four great grandchildren; one sister, Judy Leger of Bosco; one brother-in-law, Rodney Bearb of Carencro; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Ruth Roger and Betty Gene Roger both of Cankton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tackler Roger and the former Andria Dugas; one granddaughter, Ann Cormier; two brothers, Aaron Roger and Norwood Roger; one sister, Peggy Bearb; and two brothers-in-law, Emery Leger and Milton "Fra" Dugas.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 7:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Brennon Cormier, Damian Cormier, Kade Welch, Matthew Savoy, Dylan Savoy, and Kalyn Cormier. Honorary pallbearers will be Ayden Welch, Dwayne Savoy, Kavin Savoy, Carter Cormier, Korbin Doucet, Kolden Cormier, Brennen Smith, Jayden Smith and Stetson Cormier.

Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro, (337) 896-3232, is in charge of arrangements.
