Alma was the last child born to Charles Frederick Sweet and Esther Amelia (Constance) Sweet. Her mother migrated to the United States in 1856 from England. Alma married Wesley Nace Allison on October 4th, 1904. (Wesley's first wife died in 1900). They divorced November 29, 1909. Alma obtained a degree in English from the Springfield Normal college in 1913. In 1913 she was elected Principal of the Jasper Schools. In 1915 she moved to Wisconsin and obtained a doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin. In 1918, Alma was teaching at the State Normal School in Milwaukee. In 1924, she was active in the Federation of the Labor Movement. In much of her life, she supplemented her income with boarders. Alma never remarried and kept her married name of Allison. In 1955 she had moved to Tucson, Arizona and had some boarders living in her home. Alma suffered from diabetes and sustained a cerebral vascular accident. She died 11 days later and was cremated on November 21, 1964.
