Florence Kathleen Burton Spencer, 91 years of age, of Nancy, Kentucky, departed this life at 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2023 at her residence.
Kathleen was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on March 17th, 1931, daughter of Dewey and Ethel Hazel Burton. After her graduation from Nancy High School in 1949, Kathleen went on to obtain her Licensed Practical Nurse license through Somerset City Hospital and Norton Healthcare Institute. The majority of her career was devoted to her twenty-one years at Indiana Veterans Home. Kathleen was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family.
Kathleen was survived by three daughters, Connie Blevins (and Mike), Debbie Glick (and Tim), and Sandy Hopkins (and Todd); seven grandchildren, Lisa Hines (and Chris), Matthew Blevins, Lauren Stearns (and Alex), Sarah Miller (and Ryan), Ben Blevins, Holly Eggersman (and Evan), and Colin Glick; seven great-grandchildren, Julia Eggersman, Blake Miller, Emma Stearns, Clayton Miller, Mia Hines, Eva Hines, and Brian Hines; two sisters, Eardean Dunn (and J.T.) and Fostine Keeney; one brother, Granville "Sonny" Burton (and Aileen); and a host of other family, extended family and friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dewey Burton, who departed this life on March 8th, 1992 and Ethel Hazel Burton, who departed this life on September 3rd, 2006; her loving husband, Glendon Leroy Spencer, whom she married on December 10th, 1954 and who departed this life on January 24th, 1994; one sister, Geraldine Burton Crouch, who departed this life on September 13th, 2009; two brothers, Otis V. Burton, who departed this life on July 25th, 1998 and Othel "Blue" Burton, who departed this life on May 13th, 1992; two brother-in-laws, Joseph Lawrence "Joe" Crouch, who departed this life on April 6th, 1980 and Richard "Dickie" Keeney, who departed this life on June 3rd, 2004 ; two sister-in-laws, Janie Crouch and Ruth Ann Burton; and several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen loved being around her family and friends, always putting them first. She had high expectations and was very proud of her family. Kathleen enjoyed crocheting, gardening, sewing, playing board games, and watching sports, especially when family members participated. She never met a stranger and could hold a conversation with anyone.
Visitations were held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6th, 2023 at the Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023 in the Chapel of the Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Associate Pastor Danny Rowland officiating.
Burial followed in the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky.
