William Clay Watters, 83, of Oneida, Tenn., died February 10, 1997, at the Scott County Hospital. Born in Whitley City, Ky., November 21, 1913, he was the son of James H. and Millie Simpson Watters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded also in death by one son, Steven Watters; one brother, Bob Watters; and three sisters: Corda Smith, Alta Lambert, and Lottie Caylor.

He was a retired painter and decorator, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Oneida.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Watters of Oneida, Tenn.; Children” Harry Charles Watters and wife, Bonnie of Oneida, Tenn.; Billy Wayne Watters of San Antonio, Tex..; Phillip Lowell Watters and wife, Linda Lee, and William Allen Watters and wife, Elizabeth, all of Fla.; Mark L. Watters and wife, Tressa of Oneida, Tenn.; and Eric Hawkass of Calif.; six daughters: Carolyn, and David Wimker and Susan “Rick” Winters, all of Calif.; Beverly “Tony” Brown of Ariz.; Jeanette Norton-Clemons of Calif.; Francine “Mark” Galcone of Philadelphia, Pa.; and Lori “Ron” Maxwell of Madisonville, Tenn..; 27 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; two brothers: Simpson Watters of Oneida, and Delyn “Joe” Watters of Ala.; three sisters: Bess Strunk of Lenoir City, Tenn.; June Burress of Oneida, Tenn.; and Mary Jo Malloy of Covington, Ky.

Funeral services were held graveside at the Scott County Memorial Gardens with Revs. Philip Kazee and Ron Maxwell officiating. Hickman Strunk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
