William Jacob Lawles

William Jacob Lawles was born in Platte County, Missouri November 10, 1852. Departed this life at his brother James' home near McLouth, Kansas June 7, 1939. Age 86 years, 6 months and 27 days. He moved with his parents to Kansas in his early childhood, in which state he has resided almost his entire life. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Stone, and to them were born five children, four daughters and one son.

Mr. Lawles was a stalwart christian man, a real asset morally and spiritually to any community in which he lived. At one time he was a member of the Baptist Church, then he became affiliated with the Wellman Methodist church in which he took a real interest as long as he was able to attend.

When the time came for him to answer to the call of his Lord he was ready to go. Just a very few days before he died he said to his nephew, "Willie, I am going away off." During his last hours he seemed to see in through the gates. At one time he was talking with an old neighbor, Felix Rogers, who has been gone for several years. Yes, brother Lawles has been called to his crowning and we would not call him back.

His son, Henry, who lives in Kansas City, Kansas and one daughter, Hattie Kincaid of Denver, Colorado, were at his bedside when he passed away. Mrs. Lawles and the other three daughters preceded him in death. He has two brothers still living, James of McLouth, Kansas and George of Looka, Oklahoma. Besides these of his near relatives he leaves to mourn his going many, many friends.
