Elizabeth was the second daughter and second child (of 5) of parents Thomas Emerson (1662-1738) and his wife Phillipa (Perkins) Emerson (1670-1738) of Ipswich, Massachusetts.

Elizabeth and her youngest sister Mary both married Story brothers, sons of Samuel Story (1660-1726), a Veteran of King Philip's War and a respected member of the Ipswich community. Elizabeth married Ephraim Story on December 17, 1715 in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Her marriage record is posted on the left side panel underneath her birth record. This marriage produced four children - two daughters and two sons.

Children of Ephraim and Elizabeth (Emerson) Story:

- Elizabeth (Story) Perkins (1718-1791) m. Jacob Perkins, Jr. - 2 children to reach adulthood.
- William Story (1720-1774) m. Mary Gidding - 3 sons including Captain William Story, Jr.
- John Story (b. June 19, 1725; d. aft. 1760)
- Sarah (Story) Martin (1726-1752) m. Joshua Martin - 4 children. Joshua remarried after Sarah's premature death with additional children by his second wife.

Elizabeth was left a young widow when her mariner husband died at the age of 33. Her four children were all under the age of 8. Elizabeth married again 6 years later to Jonathan Smith on January 25, 1732 in Ipswich. No children from that union. Elizabeth ended up living to be three months shy of 87 years old.
