Ephraim Story was the 9th of 12 children of Samuel Story (1660-1626), a Veteran of King Philip's War, and his first wife Elizabeth (Burnham) Story (1651-1717) of Ipswich, Massachusetts. After Ephraim's mother died, in 1717, his father Samuel remarried and removed to Connecticut with his second wife.

Ephraim is listed in Ipswich, Massachusetts records as a Mariner. He married Elizabeth Emerson on December 17, 1715 in Ipswich, Massachusetts. A copy of the marriage record is posted on the left side panel. The marriage produced four children - two daughters and two sons.

Ephraim died less than 5 months after the birth of his youngest daughter/child Sarah. His wife/widow Elizabeth was left with four children under the age of 8. Circumstances had to be a rough go for her as a young widow with such young children. Reportedly she had the help and support of her parents. Nearly six years later she remarried to Jonathan Smith on January 25, 1732.

Children of Ephraim and Elizabeth (Emerson) Story:

- Elizabeth (Story) Perkins (1718-1791) m. Jacob Perkins, Jr. - 4 children.

- William Story (1720-1774) m. Mary Gidding - 3 sons including Captain William Story, Jr.

- John Story (b. June 19, 1725; d. aft. 1760)

- Sarah (Story) Martin (1726-1752) m. Joshua Martin - 4 children. Sarah named her eldest son after her father Ephraim Story Martin (1745-1833). Her son Ephraim became a Sergeant in the Revolutionary War. Husband/Widower Joshua Martin remarried after Sarah's premature death with additional children by the second wife. Husband Joshua lived to be 92 years old.
