Lula Manuel was born in 1885 ( not 1888 as engraved on the tombstone) in Browntown, VA (according to the death certificate attached to this memorial)the daughter of George Washington Manuel and Roberta Martin Manuel. Her date of birth is stated on the attached death certificate. See Herbert Wines' FAG memorial for a copy of their marriage certificate. Besides her mother and father, the rest of her brothers and sisters included:

She married Charles T. Miller, son of William T. Miller and Mary Ella Santmyers of Browntown. Lula and C. T. had the following children:

After C. T. Miller, her first husband, died in 1936, Lula married Herbert J. Wines in 1938 and they lived happily together until his death in 1967. Although this marriage did not produce any children, Herbert helped raise Lula's children and her granddaughter, Margretta.
Lula was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren and was a wonderful cook. Her abundant family dinners were looked forward to by her entire family. She would spend the week preparing her special recipes always being careful to keep the recipes secret never to reveal the ingredients that made them so special.
