OBITUARY (Thanks to dMf ( FIND A GRAVE ID# 47174180) for his dedicated effort to find this obituary to shed light on the passing of this loving sister of my husband's Grandmother, Lula Manuel Miller Wines and Aunt of his father, Hilbert Lee Miller. who died when Hilbert was still a child. dMf not only found the obituary, but also transcribed the obituary so we can all share this sad but true loss and heartbreak of this Browntown family and Warren County community.
MRS. AUBREY THOMPSON DEAD. –
On the 11th day of Jan. 1919, at 1:30 p. m., at her home near Browntown, Va., in the very springtime of her life, there passed into the Paradise of God Mrs. Aubrey Thompson, who was born and reared in Warren County. She was ill for about ten days before her death with influenza, and it was thought at first by her physician that she was progressing a very satisfactory manner until two days before her death, when her sickness took a turn for the worse and developed pneumonia.
She was a lady of sterling quality, always lovable and kind to those around her. She
was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Manuel and was married about two and a half years ago.
How strange it seems to us; just in the prime of life and happiness, that the cruel side of death should separate them. The work of God is a mystery to us, yet He doeth all things for some wise purpose not known to us. She was much beloved and will be greatly missed. She became a consistent member of the N. S. Baptist church many years ago.
Funeral services were conducted from her home by her pastor, Rev. Eubanks, and interment in the Thompson burying ground near Bentonville.
The deceased is survived, by a devoted husband, a fond mother and father, four sisters and three brothers. To her stricken and bereaved husband we extend our love and sympathy and ask him to allow us to mingle our tears with his; to her mother, father, sisters and brothers, we also pray God to send the soothing comfort of His love into their hearts.
Dear Nellie, life was short, but you lived as became a Christian, hence we can say:
Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, even so saith the Spirit for they rest from their labors."
We say farewell, dear Nellie, thou art at rest, shall forever be:
You could not stay on earth with us
But we can come to thee.
