Funeral services for Mrs. Velva Padgett, 87, of Monterey, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Dewayne Whittaker and Rev. Clayton Padgett officiating. Burial was in Midway Cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Padgett died Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center in Monterey. She was a homemaker and a member of Midway Freewill Baptist Church.

Born March, 22, 1915, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Vanis and Ova (Phillips) Bilbrey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Padgett; a daughter, Lorene Leming; a son, Loyal Padgett; four sisters, Elva Swallows, Delsie Swallows, Elsie McCowan, and Belva Phillips; and three brothers, Destel Bilbrey, Estel Bilbrey, and Vestel Bilbrey.

Survivors include four daughters, Della Norrod, Hanging Limb, Ann Carr, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Wanda McCowan, Monterey, and Chris Lewis, Smithville; a son, Bernard Padgett, Clarkrange; a sister, Delva Melton, Monterey; a brother, Bestel Bilbrey, Crossroads Community; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren
