PIONEER WOMAN IS LAID TO REST.
The funeral of Mrs. Lavina H. Shirley was held Wednesday afternoon from the chapel of the Rigdon and Richardson undertaking establishment and was largely attended by friends and relatives of the noted pioneer.
The floral offerings were numerous and very beautiful and were a fitting testimonial of the respect and esteem to which the deceased was held by her many friends. Rev. T. L. Jones of the M.E. church, of whose congregation Mrs. Shirley was for a number of years a member, officiated and paid a glowing tribute to the departed. Rev. R. N. Avison of the First M. E. church of this city, where Mrs. Shirley worshipped during her later years also joined in honoring her memory in a few well chosen words.
A splendidly rendered duet by the Misses Colony and Smith was the principal musical offering at the services. The pallbearers were Messrs. J. W. Beckley, T. D. Brown, Dexter Field, B. H. Drager, James Graham and G. P. Litchfield. Mrs. Shirley was buried in I.O.O.F. cemetery in a lead-coated steel casket, brought from Bellaire, Ohio, and hermetically sealed.
