Born Cove, Cache County, Utah to Hyrum Lester Bair and Harriet Skidmore Bair. Married Laura C. Greene, daughter of Guy Hartley Greene and Julia Melvina Sullivan, June 6, 1934, in the Logan LDS Temple.




Attended grade school in Cove, Utah. Graduated from North Cache High School, 1928. Later attended Utah State Agricultural College (USAC), in Logan, Utah, majoring in Dairy Manufacturing. He was the first Eagle Scout in the Cove LDS Ward in 1927.




Employed by Quality Dairy, Cloverleaf Dairy, and Prudential Life Insurance Company, where he advanced to the position of staff manager.




In l943 he was inducted into the U.S. Navy, where he served in the South Seas and Pacific aboard the USS Magoffin, APA-199, before being honorably discharged. Returned to Utah, and resumed his position of staff manager for Prudential Insurance Company where he served for several years.




Early in life, he had been in rural surroundings. In 1947, he decided to purchase acreage in Salt Lake County, where he returned to the earlier life style. He loved the earth, water, horses and farming land which became known as Mountain View Tree Farm. Here he spent many contented years rasing top quality trees for landscaping.




John served as the Zoning Chairman of the Cottonwood Community Council for several years, and on the Salt Lake County Planning Commission. He was influential in getting the Southeast part of the county zoned, thus assuring orderly growth and development.




He died a faithful member of the LDS Church, as a High Priest.




John is survived by wife, Laura, children, Laura Lynette, wife of Eugene Jensen, Cedarville, California and John Richard Bair (wife, Kathy Loumis), Sandy; brothers, Marion Lester, Salt Lake City and Melvin Doris, Layton; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren blessed his family. Preceded in death by daughter, Janice Claire (Bair) Embleton (died October 21, 1965); brother, Horace Wendell Bair; sisters, Theoda "S" Bair, Birdie Leora Ashton and a granddaughter, Julie.




Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 18, 1994, 12 noon, at the Wasatch 4th Ward Chapel, 8170 Short Hills Drive (3400 East). Friends may call at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 South) Thursday, November 17, 1994 from 6-8 p.m. and at the Church the day of the Service from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.
