Lydia (Armstrong) was married to William Bowen for a number of years and they had several children. William started drinking, making life miserable for Lydia. He would beat her and on one cold winter's night, kicked her out of their house. She had to walk quite some distance to a neighbor's home. During all this time, William was also having a relationship with a woman named Margaret. With the assistance of her older children and various neighbors, Lydia petitioned the Fleming Co. Court for a divorce and with input from the children and neighbors, the Court granted her the divorce. The Court also order William to pay her a lump sum of money, to deed her their home and attached land and not to be anywhere around her. I have a copy of their divorce proceedings. William then went to Margaret's and at some time, they married and lived in Ohio, where they are both buried.
