Last Tuesday morning at 3 o'clock, Mrs. Mary C. Gentles died at her home in Tilton. Mrs. Gentles had been confined to her bed for several years. Mrs. Gentles was born Feb. 11, 1835 at Cumming. She joined the Methodist church when a girl of 12. She was married to J. W. McGinnis who was killed during the civil war. In 1867 she married Mr. Pink Gentles. She leaves five children to mourn her loss – Mrs. Susie Ridley, Mr. William McGinnis, Mrs. Lizzie Evans, Mr. John Gentles and Mr. L. C. Gentles of Atlanta. Mrs. Gentles, throughout her life, had lived a Christian woman, always ready to aid those in need; her friends were many – and all. The funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church by Rev. D. P. Johnston of Resaca, in a very impressive manner; the body was laid to rest at the Tilton cemetery beside that of her husband, Mr. Pink Gentles, who died several years ago. Among the out of town people who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Evans, Mrs. Calvin Evans, of Resaca, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Townsend, Mr. J. W. Ridley, Mr. L. C. Gentles and daughter, Mrs. S. H. Fincher, of Atlanta; Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Thomas, Mr. H. Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Buchanan and Rev. J. T. Richardson, of Dalton. (Dalton Citizen June 6, 1910) {Grave has no named marker}
