ACRES, AUDNEY "Pop" - 94, died August 7, 1998, at the Scott County Hospital. Born in Scott County, Tenn., July 27, 1904, he was the son of the late Rev. RHODES and BERTHA REED ACRES. In addition to his parents, he was preceded also in death by his wife, THELMA ROSSER ACRES; one daughter, IONA ACRES HAMMOND and her husband, CLAUDE L. HAMMOND; one son, THOMAS AUDNEY ACRES; and six grandchildren. He was a charter member of West Oneida United Baptist Church, a founding member of the Scott County Rescue Squad, and a retired engineer of the O & W Railroad. He is survived by three daughters: PHYLLIS ACRES, PATRICIA CHAMBERS and husband, JUNIOR, all of Oneida; and JOSEPHINE NITZSCHKE and husband, HAROLD of Sunbright, Tenn.; five sons: NORMAN ACRES and wife, PAULINE, of Helenwood; ROBERT ACRES and wife, DELORIS, of Layton, Utah; JOHNNY ACRES and wife, MELBA, Of Oneida; PHILLIP ACRES and wife, BRENDA, of Elizabethtown, Ky.; and Rev. DAVID ACRES and wife, PAULETTE, of Wartburg, Tenn.; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. PAT ACRES of Toledo, Ohio; one sister, EVA DAVIS and husband, JOE, of Oneida; four brothers: MILFORD ACRES, and ARGIE ACRES and wife, LEORA, all of Oneida; SILAS ACRES of Columbia City, Ind., and LLOYD ACRES and wife, ARTIE, of Clinton, Tenn.; 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, OLLIE ACRES of Perry, Ga., and AUDELE GREINER of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother-in-law, OVID TOMPKINS of Jamestown, Tenn.; and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted August 9, 1998, in the chapel of Jones and Son Funeral Home with Rev. DALE SMITH, Rev. PHILIP KAZEE, and Rev. DAVID ACRES officiating. Music was provided by ALAN MATTHEWS. Interment was conducted August 10,1998, at Hazel Valley Cemetery. Jones and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 until time of the funeral service at 8:30 p.m. Burial will be Monday, August 10, at 11 a.m. at the Hazel Valley Cemetery.
