Murphy D. Curry, a lifelong resident of Franklin, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, December 12, 2014, in the Long Term Acute Care Unit of Iberia Medical Hospital.
Born March 4, 1933 in Bayou Chene, LA to Edwin and Julia Allen Curry, he was one of 14 children. He entered the Army serving from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in 1954. His career existing of being an oilfield worker, he worked many years as a pipefitter belonging to the Pipe Fitter's Union and working for Kuhlman Becnel Hardware. He spent many years coaching Little League Baseball, was an avid LSU fan, loved fishing and most recently drinking coffee with the early morning coffee group at McDonald's.
Murphy was a born again Christian and an active member of the Calvary Bible Church.
He is survived by two brothers, E.J. Curry and his wife, Letty, and Alden Curry, both of Franklin; two sisters, Frieda Larson and her husband, Eldridge, of New Iberia; and Vivian Adams and her husband, Bill, of Lafayette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Julia Allen Curry; five brothers, Evans, Floyd, Amos, Jack and Aubrey "Blackie" Curry; and four sisters, Goldie Snellgrove Stockstill, Florence Allen, Alvenia Carline and Corinne Curry.
As one of his last generous gifts, Murphy donated his body to Tulane University.
Memorial services will be held at Calvary Bible Church in Centerville on Saturday, December 7, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Curtis Pace and the Rev. Clyde Crappell will officiate.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Calvary Bible Church in Murphy's memory.
