A memorial service to celebrate the life of Aubrey "Blackie" Curry will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin. Blackie, 76, a native of Bayou Chene and a lifelong resident of Franklin, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, August 12, 2013, at his home with his wife by his side. Rev. Curtis Pace will officiate the service.

In his younger years, Blackie worked in the oil field and then went on to work for Cabot. In 1974 he went into business for himself, buying Kuhlman-Becnel Hardware, which he ran until retiring and closing the store. Blackie was active for over 20 years with the Franklin Little League and was a former league president. He was also an avid Yankees and Saints fan. He enjoyed annual Thanksgiving hunting trips on the Chene, but his real passion was fishing. When he couldn't fish anymore, he turned to feeding the fish. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Virgie Landry Curry; four children, Aubrey "Booga" Curry and his wife Jo Ellen, Rickey Curry and his friend Shantel, Virginia C. Thibodeaux and her husband Bryan, all of Franklin, and Jared Curry of Jeanerette; three brothers, E. J. Curry and his wife Lettie, Murphy Curry, and Alden Curry, all of Franklin; three sisters, Corinne Curry of Franklin, Frieda Larson and her husband Eldridge of New Iberia, and Vivian Adams and her husband Bill of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Taylor Curry, Avery Curry, Evan Thibodeaux, Katie Thibodeaux, and Nathan Curry; one step-grandchild, Emily Thibodeaux; one great grandchild, Wyatt Kidder; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin W. Curry and Julia Allen Curry; four brothers, Evans Curry, Floyd Curry, Jack Curry, and Amos Curry; and three sisters, Goldie Snellgrove, Florence Allen, and Alvenia Carline.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday at Ibert's Mortuary from 11:00 AM until time of Memorial Service at 2:00 PM. Honorary bearers will be Aubrey "Booga" Curry, Rickey Curry, Jared Curry, Bryan Thibodeaux, Evan Thibodeaux, Nathan Curry, E. J. Curry, Murphy Curry, Alden Curry, and Junius Granger.
