He was born to John and Emma (Davis) Roe in Almira, New York. He moved to Washington at an early age, returned to New York, then the family homesteaded in Billings, Montana where he attended school. He later returned to Washington to work and attended Ellensburg Normal School.
He married Melvola Fowler February 26, 1929 in Yakima. They made their first home in Ellensburg, moved to Billings, Montana, returned to Yakima where they were involved in the fruit industry raising cherries, pears and peaches.
During World War II he became a machinist and was employed at Hanford for a short time.
In February 1945, they purchased an apple orchard in Manson. Later worked as a machinist for Howe Sound at Holden until it closed. Moved to Chelan and built a home from houses they dismantled and moved downlake from Holden. He was employed as a carpenter-machinist at Rocky Reach Dam, Wanapum Dam, Royal City Missile Base, Wells Dam, Third Power House at Grand Coulee, and Libby Dam in Montana.
He wrote songs and sung them on the radio.
Survivors include a son, Orbit (Bid), East Wenatchee, two daughters, Dorothy LaManna, Renton, and Charlotte Russell, Manson; one brother, Earl, Tonasket, a sister, Grace Leinen, Phoenix, Arizona, Three half-sisters, Betty Stutzer, Portland, Oregon, Edna Force, New York, Martha Green, Florida, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1982, a son and daughter, one grandson, one sister, two brothers, and half-sister, and three half-brothers.
