He was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Decatur County, the son of Harlen and Rose Dullenty Hersley. He was a retired plumber and pipefitter and a member of Local 632. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Post 129, and the Batesville Eagles Lodge.
He married Virginia Owens Dec. 22, 1939, and she survives, with two sons, Danny and Fred Hersley Jr., both of Greensburg; four daughters, Dorothy Blair, Greensburg, Shirley Hersley, Warren, Ore., Barbara Johns, Charleston, Ill., and Mary Garcia, Ventura, Calif.; one half brother, Denny Dullenty, Greensburg; one sister, Dorothy Mohr, Mooresville, Ind.; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Hersley, three brothers and one sister.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, Greensburg, with the Rev. Eston Poling officiating.
Burial will be in South Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The Welsh-Crawley-Kramer Post 129 will perform graveside rites.
