Guy Garfield Root, 76, an insurance agent who lived just north of Sandusky, died at 11:15 Thursday night in Major Hospital at Shelbyville after a two-year illness. He was born in Milroy on May 17, 1880, a son of William A. and Alice Weed Root, and was married on May 27, 1908, to Anna Martin, who survives. Mr. Root, who had lived most of his adult life in Decatur County, was a graduate of Milroy High School and Central Business College in Indianapolis. A member of the Sandusky Methodist Church, Mr. Root also was active in Masonic and Modern Woodmen Lodge circles. He was a 50-year member of the Milroy Masonic Lodge and also a 50-year member of the Modern Woodmen at Greensburg in which lodge he had served as secretary for several years. Mr. Root also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star at- Greensburg. In addition to the widow, he is survived by one son, Loren M. Root of Chicago; two daughters, Mrs. Howard McGraw of Libertyville, Ill., and Mrs. Paul Jolliff of R.R. 1, Greensburg, two granddaughters and several cousins. A sister, Mrs. Lily Darnell, precede him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Milroy with the Rev. O. P. Baugh and the Rev. E. P. White officiating. Burial will be in the Milroy Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Saturday.
