Mrs. Anna Root, 94, died Friday at 4 p.m. in the Condell Memorial Hospital in Libertyville, Ill.

Mrs. Root was born Nov. 29, 1882, in Decatur County, the daughter of John and Mary Frances (Van Hook) Martin.

She was a charter member of the Sandusky United Methodist Church and a member of the WSCS organization of the church.

Mrs. Root was a member of the Clinton Township Extension Homemakers Club and a 50-year member of the Lois chapter of OES. She was the organizer of the first 4-H Club in Decatur County.

Mrs. Root had spent most of her life in Decatur County and taught school in Clinton Township and at an elementary school on the Vandalia Road.

She was married to Guy G. Root, May 27, 1908, in Decatur County.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Janith McGraw, Libertyville, Ill., and Mrs. Paul (Marjorie) Jolliff, Ryle Addition, Greensburg; a brother, Earl T. Martin, Shelbyville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Loren M. Root, in July, 1976, two brothers: J. Frank Martin and William D. Martin and three sisters: Gertrude Martin, who died in infancy and Myrtle and Janie Martin.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with burial in the Milroy Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday.
