Joseph Berger Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Edward Berger passed away on August 16, 2017 at his home in Blythe. Joe was born on November 9, 1929 in Memphis, Tennessee to James Price and Josephine Posey Berger.

Joe enjoyed being surrounded by friends, family and watching the Colorado River flow past his porch. He also enjoyed collecting antiques and was a long-time member of the Horseless Carriage Club. A favorite New Year's ritual was skinny dipping in his pool at midnight and later hopping in the Colorado River at midnight!

Joe's family lived in Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi until they moved to Northern California in the early '40s. Eventually they ended up in Hollywood where Joe attended and graduated from Hollywood High. While at Hollywood High his house was always the place to hang out after school. Joe and his friends would drink Coca Cola and have burping contests, much to his mother's dismay.

Joe served in the Army during the Korean War and was a radio operator instructor in Japan. After the end of his military career Joe was employed as an electronics engineer specializing in two-way communication. Joe started a Real Estate career as a Realtor in the mid-1970's and maintained his license until his death. Joe was a volunteer for the Blythe CERT program (Certified Emergence Response Team) and proud member of the local Lion's Club that meets at Steaks 'n Cakes in Blythe.

Joe was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy, his second wife Lois, his brother Jim and his parents Jim "Pappy" and Josie.

Joe is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Schnarr (husband Jim), Julie Swift (husband Kevin), son Steven Berger (wife Pamela), step son Chuck Jacobi (wife Stacy) and step daughter Christee Booth (husband Jeff).

He is Grandpa to 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Joe's unlimited energy, sense of humor, joy for life, love of family and his stories (some that contained actual facts) will be missed.
Memorial services to be held Tuesday, September 12th at the VFW at 1:00 p.m.
