Bonnie Hoopes Ward, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed peacefully away on August 27th, 2022, surrounded by family.
Bonnie was born February 4, 1948, in Rexburg, Idaho to Horace and Della Hoopes. She was the fourth of six children. She grew up in Rexburg and spent summers on the family farm in Tetonia, Idaho where she learned to work hard, and enjoyed playing and riding horses in the hills behind the farmhouse. The beautiful Teton mountains viewed from the farmhouse brought the family back to the area in the winter for fun family ski trips.
Bonnie spent the majority of her life in Rexburg, graduating from Madison High in 1966 followed by a nursing degree from Ricks College in 1968. With a job at LDS Hospital in Utah she had her first move away from home. In November of the same year, she married the love of her life, Lane Ward in the Idaho Falls temple. She first saw him across the way at a family camping trip when she was 11. She remembers being so impressed with watching how kindly he treated his mother as a young boy and wanted to marry a boy like that.
Her next big move was to the big city of Chicago for Lane to attend dental school. While there they welcomed two daughters, Kamara and Kolette. Following that, they lived two years in Miami, Florida before moving home permanently to Rexburg, Idaho where Lane opened a dental practice. A son, Ryan and daughter, Jodie, joined their family shortly after.
Bonnie always desired to be a mother and loved her children but never felt fully well after the last child was born. Family, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brought her deep joy. When her health prevented her from visiting, she loved getting pictures and videos of them.
She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ and was happy to serve in the ward and stake wherever she was asked. Most of her life Bonnie struggled with health challenges but continued to press forward with faith doing the best she could in each situation and teaching her family to count their blessings and be grateful for life despite hardships. Her family felt grateful that despite being homebound for the last few years of her life, that she was able to remain in her own home until her passing.
Bonnie is survived by children, Kamara (Dane) Dickson, Kolette Ward, Ryan (Deon) Ward, Jodie (Bo) Crofoot, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, siblings, Robert (Margaret) Hoopes, Steve (Dana) Hoopes, Brenda (Jack) Daily.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lane Ward, her father, Horace, her mother, Della, and sisters, Marlene and Mary Lou.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2nd at the Rexburg North Stake Center, 314 East 2nd North. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
