Richard Hunter "Dick" Binkley

Richard Hunter "Dick" Binkley, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 11, 2022.

A private service will be held for the family. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.

Dick entered into this life on April 25, 1935, to the late Emmanuel Binkley, Sr. and Ella Davenport Binkley. As a young man, Dick proudly enlisted and served his country with the US Navy. Afterward, he began a career with the US Dept. of Defense, Civil Service. He was a true patriot in every sense of the word and retired after a prolific career in national defense. Additionally, Dick was a firearms and munitions expert. He, along with his wife, Jo Anne, operated one of the most successful firearms and gunsmithing businesses in the area, Custom Gunsmithing. During his "retirement" years, Dick enjoyed the fellowship of patrons visiting his gun shop and being the true gentleman he was, also served his community at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. His caring, gentle nature lended neatly to loving on families he served while at the funeral home. Finally, Dick was a Masonic Lodge member and also a member of the church family at Hilldale Baptist Church. He will be sorely missed by all those that knew him.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his beloved children, Richard Hunter "Rick" Binkley II and Kimberly "Kim" Binkley Crist; and siblings, Emmanuel Binkley, Jr., Charles Binkley, Randolph Binkley, Ralph Binkley, and Mildred Richmond.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Jo Anne Mackens Binkley; grandchildren, Matthew Hunter Binkley, Morgan Reid Binkley, Charles Jacob "Jake" Binkley, Richard Tyler Crist, Harry Gordon Crist; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Jo Binkley and Tyler Gordon Crist; sisters, Billie Combs and Eleanor Migliaccio; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
