daughter of James Hayner and Susan Ann Linton

Martha Elizabeth Hayner was born in Kentucky in 1850. When a small child she removed with her parents to Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.

In 1868, she was united in marriage to Ezra P. Carpenter and to this union were born seven children, four sons and three daughters, all of whom, except a daughter in Montana were with her during her entire sickness.

She was stricken with the Disease of the Brain and after fighting the grim Monster for forty days, with all that medical aid, careful nursing and kind and loving hands could do, she passed away at 6 pm, Mar. 20, 1913.

At the age of 19 she was converted and joined the Church of God, since which time she has lived a pure true Christian life.

Since coming west she has been affiliated with the Methodist Church.

She was a devoted wife and a kind and loving mother, always having her interests centered in her home and family and her friends were counted only by her acquaintances.

The family removed to Chelan in 1901 and have since resided on their ranch North of town.

She leaves to mourn her loss besides her husband: Hugh E., John r., and Mrs. L. L. Harn of Chelan, Charles B. and Harry S. both living at home, Mrs. F. A. Daniels of Wenatchee and Mrs. R. H. Powers of Montana, also three brothers, Solomon, John B., and Polsley all of Page Co., Iowa.
