RICHFIELD, Utah-- Orean Barney, 84, of Richfield, Utah, passed away December 4, 2000, in Richfield, Utah.

He was born August 28, 1916, in Esca-lante, Utah, to Afton L. and Lillie Nielsen Barney. He married Faye Huntsman March 25, 1939, in Richfield, Utah. They were sealed for time and all eternity on December 3, 1980, in the Manti LDS Temple. His wife and sweetheart, Faye, was his constant eternal companion and helpmate.

Orean was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Asiatic Campaign. He was a very Patriotic person and loved his country. He taught his children and grandchildren to respect the flag. He also earned the name "Rock Hound" for his geological expertise. If he wasn't home he would be in the mountains or in the mines prospecting. He passed this tradition on to his sons.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and loved the Lord. He had a strong testimony of the power of the priesthood. Orean loved being with his family and grandchildren. His granddaughters were affectionately known as his "sunshine girls".

Orean and Faye spent 21 years in Quartzite, AZ. during the winter months with their friends Alvin and Bea Jensen along with many other good friends.

All his family and friends will miss his great stories and love for life.

He is survived by his wife Faye of Richfield; children, Betty Jean (Ronald) Farnsworth, South Jordan; Maynard O. (Joyce) Barney, Gunnison; Fay Loy (Dennis) Crane, Monticello; Rocky Val (Philena) Barney, Richfield; 35 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Freeland (Dorothy) Barney, Magna; Clem (Charlotte) Barney, Richfield; Gladys (Lavell) Waters, Richfield; Donna (Dallin) Magleby, Monroe; Larry (Dorothy) Barney; Ferrall Barney, both of Rocksprings, WY; brothers-in-law, Guy (Ila) Huntsman, Aurora; Dick Rossi, Midvale; sister-in-law, Nila (Jack) Shiner, Aurora; daughters-in-law, Patty Shaw, Texas; Vicky Barney, Aurora; Carol Barney, Richfield.

Preceded in death by parents; sisters: Ronelda Riddle, Lottie Verdonk, LaRean Smith, Myrl Wilson, Vonda Snedeger; brothers-in-law: Don (Sarah) Huntsman, Rex (Vonda) Huntsman, Dean (Florence) Huntsman; sisters-in-law: Hilda (Kenneth) Gates and Harvey Nielson, Zelma (Wendell) Gates and Joe Ortega, Vione (Wendell) Shiner, Theo (Orval) Draper, Fontell Rossi.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 8, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Richfield 8th LDS Ward Chapel, 200 E. Center. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and again Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be with Military Rites by the V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050 in the Richfield City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield, UT.
