Florence was the daughter of John Robert (1980-1958) & Della Nancy Woodruff(1881-1944). She was one of six children of this marriage, Lola Marion (1902-1979) Olive "Irene" (1905-1994), John Robert "Jack"(1912-1979), Arthur Ernest "Art" (1915-1951) & Eldon "James". Although they were born in Canada they held duel citizenship as both parents were born in the USA.

She married Leon Fowler Wilber May 5, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio. From a former marriage, Leon brought into the marriage three children, James Howard, Leon Edwin "Skip" and Doris Jean. They had one child, Betty Joan.

My mother was a very unique person with very strong beliefs. What I miss the most is that she would always tell me the truth, even if the truth hurt. The most wonderful gift she gave me was her wisdom.

Florence met my father when she was working for Grinnell Brothers. She believed children should always have summer vacations which usually were at Wampler's Lake in the Irish Hills. Before I left home in 1960, Florence became a registered licensed practical nurse. She was unable to work as a nurse, however, because she had such problems with her feet. She did use her knowledge when she worked as a medical transcriber for Garden City Hospital. She also worked for as a secretary for Greyhound Bus and took us on trips with her free passes and as a secretary to Leon at Grinnell's. She loved to travel and was a member of the Jackson Trippers. She was a member of All Saints Church in Brooklyn as well as a member of the Alter Guild.

Mom told me that some of her most wonderful memories of her childhood were with her father who played the fiddle and called out square dances for local get-together in Colfax, Sask. Canada. She said she frequently accompanied him and she had a real love for music. She also was the reason for our religious training as children and her favorite song for me to play on the organ was "The Old Rugged Cross".

I am most grateful to God that he chose Leota Florence Clark-Wilber for my mother. She named me "Joan" after Joan of Arc because she wanted me to have the moral fiber to live my beliefs regardless of the consequences. Until we met again.
Your loving daughter,
Joanie
