Former Blairite Buried on Coast
Mrs. T.K. Best passed away suddenly at her home in Sunland, California Wednesday evening while watching a T.V. program. Her death was attributed to a heart attack. Mrs. Best was the former Mabel Jensen Schafer and was born August 27th 1899 to Mr. and Mrs. Jens Black Jensen who are now deceased. Mrs. Best's first husband, Frank Schafer, also preceded her in death. An adopted son, Marshall Schafer and Mr. Best survive. Burial was made Saturday morning at the New Glen Haven Cemetery in Los Angeles. Attending the funeral from Blair were her sisters, Miss Hannah Jensen, Mrs. Sena Wulf and her brothers, Soren and Chris Jensen and their wives. Three other sisters live in California, Mrs. Rex (Nora) Hart, Mrs. Cleo (Stella) Hart [actually Hall] and Mrs. Esther Saulvester who is seriously ill in a hospital. A brother Emil passed away several years ago.
NOTE: Mabel and Theodore Keener Best, b ca 1904 and son of Lemuel N Best 83064283 (B IL) and Ella Armida Prindle (B PA), were married on 6 March 1943 in Los Angeles, California. Theodore was previously married and divorced. He was born in Spring City, Tennessee).
Theo's first wife, Burt Amanda Hadley, 85479448, md 1929. It appears he remarried after Mabel's death.
NOTE: Adopted son, Marshal Kame Schafer (25, NY) and Marjorie Evelyn Pratt (23, Alberta, Canada) were married on 03 Jun 1946 in Los Angeles, California. Marjorie was the daughter of Herbert Pratt 169385302 (Portsmouth, England) and Ada Souder 169385300 (Apr 1895; Omaha, NE; Eli 228571442 and Addie 228571441 Souder).
Marjorie 154648496 later married Roy Rasor, however her certificate of naturalization, dated January 12, 1951, carries a naming of Marjorie Evelyn Schafer.
