Our loving Lorraine Marie (Hopland) Nyberg, 92 of rural Cass Lake, MN passed away Thursday morning, July 21, 2022 at her home after living a long, full life. Lorraine was born on February 20, 1930 in Bemidji, MN to Irva (Jordan) and Oscar Hopland. She was the sixth of seven children raised in Guthrie, then Cass Lake following the death of her Father. She played the clarinet and graduated from Cass Lake High School in 1948. She had a passion for both math and English.

Following a year of attending Bemidji State College, Lorraine began dating Myron Nyberg. They were married on September 2, 1950 in Hart Lake Lutheran Church near Guthrie, MN. (They were later sealed as a family on April 8, 1968 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Temple in Logan, Utah.) Myron and Lorraine made their home in Cass Lake, MN. Here Lorraine mothered 9 children, whom she adored. As a mother she supported her children in their various school and community activities. As a wife, she was a diligent companion, working alongside Myron for 64 years. They consistently made room for family and friends. She was an amazing cook, maintained a lovely garden, and utilized her harvest through her seasoned canning skills.

Once her children were grown, she continued to bless her community through her 30 years of employment at Teals Grocery store; as a member, then president of the Cass Lake Lioness Club; and as a volunteer of 15 years with the Boys and Girls Club of Cass Lake. She loved serving the community within the 30 mile radius she had always called home.

Lorraine was a devout Christian and served the Lord by serving those in her congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her callings were numerous and included that of a missionary as well as a temple worker. She was a woman of faith who lived the gospel daily. When her health kept her from attending church services, she continued to minister to others through phone calls and letters.

She was an avid writer of letters, poems, and eventually books. She wrote 9 books: four family histories, three picture books, one regional/religious history, and one poetry compilation of over 100 poems. Her words painted pictures her eyes could no longer see. Grandma Raine will be dearly missed, but her wisdom, love, and selflessness will live on to be cherished by those she counted often, her continually growing posterity. At her last count, they numbered 40 grandchildren (plus spouses) and 75 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons: John Nyberg of Cass Lake, MN, George (Kathy) Nyberg of Cass Lake, MN, Phillip (Lori) Nyberg of Lake CIty, MN, David (Michelle) Nyberg of Layton, UT, Son in law: Ron (Tabitha) Marx of Eagle Mountain, UT, Daughters: Jody (Ken) Done of Sandy, UT, Bonnie (Kelly) Peterson of Riverton, UT, Gail (Blaine) Holiday of Minnesota, Cheryl (John) Lambdin of Leesburg,VA, Sister in law Etta Nyberg Guzick, her numerous Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, And many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Myron, her parents, her 6 siblings, her daughter Ramona (Nyberg) Marx, two grandchildren: Nathan Nyberg and Anna Nyberg Myer, and two great-grandchildren: Brooks and Beckham Morgan.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 30th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3033 Birchmont Drive NE Bemidji, MN. Visitation will begin at 9:30 and continue until 10:45 am. Internment will be at the Farris-Farden Township Cemetery under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
