John Fokes Sr is said to have been born in AL about 1801. He married, about 1818 in FL, Abigale McLennan, a daughter of John McLennan and Catherine McKinnon.

Father of Mary Elizabeth, John Jr, Daniel, Charles Neal, Catherine and Permelia Ann Fokes.

Sir,

We have the honor to transmit an abstract of claims to lands in West Florida marked I. Founded on habitation and cultivation between 22nd February 1819 and the 17th July 1821, reported to Congress in obedience to an act entitled "an act granting donations to certain actual settlers in the Territory of Florida". It has been deemed expedient to make this report, at an early period, as the act may require amendments and this class of claims is subject to future legislation.

John applied for and received a Spanish Land Grant in TX. It is said that John died while migrating with his family from FL to TX. It is not known where he is buried. His family continued on to TX and his wife, Abigale received the Spanish Land Grant in Nov 1835 located in Milam Co., TX.
