Fred Jay

Fred Jay, 88, retired rural mail carrier, died at a Black River Falls hospital Monday. He had been under care there since he fell down the stairs in his home five weeks ago. He served out of both the Millston and Black River Falls Post Offices. Jay was Millston's oldest resident.

He was born in New Lisbon, Oct. 5, 1875, but lived in and around the Warrens area 1918 when he moved to Millston and accepted the position as rural mail carrier out of the Millston office. When routes were discontinued at Millston he tranferred to the Black River Falls post office, continuing to maintain his home in Millston. He retired from the postal service in 1940.

Survivors include his widow, Marie; four daughters, Mrs. Winnie (Sadie) Lambert, St. Paul; Mrs. Darrel (Caroline) Kersting,
Stoughton; Mrs. Floyd (Mary) Tessman, Tomah; and Mrs. Hallister (Florence) Duncan, Mukwonago, Wis.; 2 sons, Bert, Mukwanago, and Alfred, Millston; one brother, Ernest Jay, Warrens; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral services have been planned for Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Millston Union Church with Pastor T.A. Rykken officiating. Burial will be at Brookside cemetery there. The Torgerson Funeral Chapel
is in charge of arrangements where friends may call in Black River Falls Wednesday afternoon and evening.
