Matteo "Matthew" Del Fatti settled in the Mildand area in 1912 when Mildand was little more than a hotel, depot, and a cattle shipping yard. He was from Grosotto, Italy and his wife Maria was from St. Moritz, Switzerland. They had five children Mary, Ida, Matt, Angie and Pete Del Fatti. They bought a 100-ace ranch and started a small dairy with 49 head of cattle which were all milked by hand.
They sold the milk to the City Creamery once a week. They delivered the milk by horse and buggy. At this time they also bought their supplies for the week, such as sugar, kerosene for their lanterns, etc.
In 1928 Matteo was killed in a tractor accident, and Matt took over the ranch with his mother.
