Mr. Newton W. Beverly Jr., 71, died Sunday morning at the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta after a short illness.
He was a retired school bus driver with 28 years of service in the Ware County school system. He was a member of the Suwannee Chapel Church of God of Prophecy and the Men’s Sunday School Class, and he was an honorary member of the Okefenokee Sportsman Club.
A native and lifelong resident of Ware County, he was the son of the late Newton W. and Ida Pittman Beverly.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years. Louise Beverly, and two daughters, Mary Thomas (husband John) and Carol Bryant (husband Michael), all of Waycross; three sons, Marvin Beverly of Waycross, Wayne Beverly of Manor and Clinton Beverly of Argyle; two sisters, Jessie Welch (husband Ralph) and Ruby Hickox, both of Waycross; five grandchildren, Tony Thomas (wife Lavonne), Diane Yawn (husband Robby) and David Bryant, all of Waycross, and Randy Beverly and Brandy O’Berry (husband Ed), both of Manor; two great-grandchildren, Blake Yawn and Curt Thomas, Waycross; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Suwannee Chapel (Manor) with burial in the church cemetery.
His Sunday School class, Ware school bus drivers and members of the Okefenokee Sportsman Club are asked to meet at the church at 1:45 p.m. to serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation at Miles-Odum Funeral Home is tonight from 7 until 9 o’clock.
