She was a native and life-long resident of Ware County. She and her husband, Ralph J. Welch celebrated 68 years of marriage before his death September 27, 2014. As a young lady she worked as a waitress at the Green Frog Restaurant and it was during this time that she met her husband. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Newton Beverly, Sr. and Ida Mae Pittman Beverly, her sisters, Ruby, Carrie, Annie, and Minor, her brothers Junior Newton, J.D., and Johnson.
Mrs. Welch was a devoted and excellent wife, mother, and grandmother. For many years it was a family tradition that she prepared Friday lunch for all of her family. She and her husband loved spending time and fishing at Crescent Lake in Florida.
She was a long-time member of Crawford Street Baptist Church, the Fidelis Sunday School Class and the church choir. She was a former seamstress with Waycross Sportswear and also secretary of R.J. Welch and Son.
Survivors include 2 sons, Lewis J. Welch (wife Sue) and Kenny R. Welch (wife Susan) of Waycross; 3 grandchildren, Richard Welch (wife Megan) of Valdosta, Walker Welch (wife Heidi) of Douglas, and Paul Welch (wife Katie) of St. Augustine, FL; 5 great grandchildren, Carter Welch, Rhett Welch, Kole Welch, Parker Welch, Lyla Welch, and Rhys Welch; her caregiver, Alyscia Maxwell of Waycross, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorials may be made to Crawford Street Baptist Church, 204 South Crawford St., Waycross, GA 31501.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday (May 11, 2016) at Crawford Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Tuesday evening at Music Funeral Home.
