Katharine Asenath Clemens "Kacy" Nelson, 80, of Rockford, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021.


Born December 5, 1940, the daughter or Gilbert and Katharine Clemens.


Proud graduate of West Waterloo High School in Waterloo, Iowa. Attended Wessington Springs College in South Dakota. Kacy married Mark Gene Nelson on November 21, 1959. He was her best friend and husband of 50 years and predeceased her December 29, 2009. She was a Day Care Teacher at First Wesleyan Church. Also, she was an avid volunteer for Parents Anonymous of Illinois, Contact Hotline, Homemakers Association, as well as many church activities; serving as choir director, alto singer, VBS teacher and Sunday School Teacher. She was a wonderful, caring person who was always ready to assist anyone in need. She always found the good in everybody and kept a positive attitude.


Survived by her daughters, Jennifer Bertone, Elizabeth (Bud) Wilson, Martha Nelson; son, Andrew (Terrie) Nelson; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and one on the way.


Predeceased by her parents, husband, and son, Jeffrey Nelson, 3 sisters, one brother.


We would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Alpine Fireside for their excellent care and treatment of our mom over the last two years, and UW Health Madison, especially Nurse Lindsey, for her tender care during mom's final days.


Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road Loves Park. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
