Hester was the daughter of Abner Jehu Paxton and Hester Elmore. She was married three times, as follows:

Marriage #1: Robert Owen Samples born July 16, 1850 in Virginia. They had two children: Stella Samples born ABT 1868 and Abner Jehu "Hugh" Samples born February 25, 1870 in Procious, Clay Co., West Virginia.

Marriage #2: Samuel "Short Sam" Samples. They had one child, a son named George David Samples born January 11, 1873 in Clay Co., West Virginia.

Marriage #3: In Clay County, West Virginia on August 10, 1876 to Henry Taylor Burdette born June 1856 in Kesslers Cross Lanes, Nicholas Co., West Virginia. They had seven children:

1. Esta Burdette.
2. Mary Manda Burdette born ABT 1877 in Clay Co., WV.
3. William Cephas "Buzz" Burdette born ABT October 1879 in Clay Co., West Virginia.
4. Adam Webster Burdette born March 5,1881 -West Virginia. 5. Henry Patrick "Pat" Burdette born February 27, 1885 in Paxton, Clay Co., West Virginia.
6. Eliza Ann Burdette born April 7, 1887 in Clay Co., West Virginia.
7. Emma Mae Burdette born August 12, 1892 in Clay Co.
