PARENTS: Thomas Paxton and Mary (Plott) Paxton. Some researchers have William Paxton and Hannah Abbott as Abner's parents.

WIVES: On Sept. 26, 1839 in Botetourt County, Virginia, Abner married Hester Elmore (b.1814). Nearly a year after Hester died, he married Elizabeth (Hall) Samples (b.1832), a widow, on Dec. 16, 1883.

MILITARY: During the Civil War Abner served with the Confederate Army, 22nd Virginia Infantry in Troop H, 14th Regiment and Co. K. Findagrave contributor and researcher "LSP" notes: "He also served in Co. H, 14th Virginia Cavalry. He was captured at Fisher's Hill on 22 Sep 1864 and was in a Richmond Hospital."

About 1866 he moved his family from Craig County, Virginia to Horner's Fork in Clay County, West Virginia.
