Son of Frederick and Nancy Opie (nee' Ball) Bates
Died near his home Thornhill
for Lucius Lee Bates' memorial:
19 March 2020 - Shirley Wadell called Faust Park where the Bates Cemetery is located and asked about the burial site for Lucius Lee Bates who died 1898. Tim indicated that Lucius Lee Bates, son of 2nd Governor Frederick Bates, was officially buried at Bates Cemetery but was moved to Bellefontaine Cemetery after the death of his wife Dulcina 'Cene' (Conway) Bates about 1921. Shirley Wadell spoke with Sherry at Bellefontaine Cemetery office and she indicated there is no burial record for Lucius Lee Bates who died 1898 for Bellefontaine Cemetery; however, there is a record for a child casket buried next to Cene who died in 1910.
Pictures posted on Lucius Lee Bates' memorial for Bellefontaine Cemetery does show a headstone. The memorial for Lucius Lee Bates for Bates Cemetery has a photo of his headstone for that location as well.

Lucius was moved from Faust Park to Bellefontaine Cemetery before his wife died so the 1910 burial is his. (The burial was only the size of a child's grave as the body had already decomposed so they only charged for the burial of a child) This was discovered several years ago by Dan Fuller (who works at Bellefontaine Cemetery) and the curator at Faust Park ( LLR5654 (48304306)). It is unknown the exact reason why they moved the remains at that time except there is an article in the Post Dispatch about that time about how the current owner of the property (Eisenhardt) was not taking care of the cemetery because "they didn't pay him to" I can send you the article if you would like if you email me.
