William 'Bill' Drummond was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1926 and passed away in Allen, Texas on September 16th 2015. He attended Cathedral High School in Indianapolis and served his country in the Army Air Corp. He graduated from Purdue University and married Jacqueline Jones in 1954. Bill worked for the Indianapolis Water Company and then later Bartholomew County in the city of Columbus, Indiana, building roads, bridges and a dam during his tenure. In 1972 he moved his family to Haines City, Florida to become the Director of Public Works and soon thereafter became City Manager. He retired in 1992 after serving the city for 20 years. At his retirement celebration he received a proclamation from the mayor declaring February 20, 1992 Bill Drummond Day. For the next three years he worked part time as City Manager for Davenport. During his time in Central Florida he was a member of St Ann's Catholic Church and active in the International City Managers Association, the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, Little League Football, Haines City Community Theater, the Library Board and the Historical Society. Bill loved playing basketball and was always ready for a pickup game with coworkers and friends. He touched many hearts over the years as an influential leader and mentor. The family is having a come and go open house in his honor in the Lake Eva Community Center multi-purpose room at 555 Ledwith Ave. on October 31st from 1:00 to 3:00.
He is survived by his wife Jacque' of 60 years, daughter Denise Black and her husband Barry of Allen, Texas, daughter Lesa Drummond of Savannah, Georgia and son Jay Drummond of Haines City. He has two adult grandchildren in Dallas, Texas, Jeff and Kristen Black and five year old twin grandsons in Haines City, Bayley William and Hunter George Drummond. Bill's younger brother James Drummond and wife Diane reside in Indianapolis, Indiana.
