Mrs. Leola Mae Sands, 89, a resident of Greenville, passed away on April 22, 2022. Leola Mae was born on March 9, 1933, to William H. "Doc" Cone and Alice Hudson Cone, in Ft. Pierce Florida. After graduating from Greenville High School in 1950, she married Cleon Sands of Greenville.
Leola Mae was preceded in death by her husband Cleon Sands, her parents, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Earline Cone, Iris Cone, and Juanita Cone, brothers-in-law Henry Sands and Ira Sands, daughters Gail Dickey (Roy) and Barbara Norris (Marshall), her son Gary Sands, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Leola Mae loved the simple life, she spent her adult years taking care of others. Her children recall a mother who cooked three meals a day from scratch, worked in the fields, hosted all the family events, taught Sunday School, kept her Singer pedal sewing machine going, and even enjoyed ironing. She enjoyed spending time with family, reading, and taking care of her cats.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Burns Madison Chapel at 11:00 am with Reverend Dave Musgrave officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville, Florida. Visitation will be an hour prior to service. Arrangements handled by Burns Madison Chapel, Madison.
