Mr. Bennett was born on July 3, 1936 in Willington, CT, a son of the late Rene and Gladys (Wilson) Bennett. He graduated from Windham High School in 1955 and furthered his education at the University of Connecticut. On June 22, 1957, William was united in marriage with the former Gloria Palmer at the Clara Hall Elliott Memorial Church, Willington. Bill was a heavy equipment operator in his early years. After moving to New York, the couple owned and operated Ben-Crest Farm for 37 years, he retired in 2005.
Bill was once a member of 4-H, he enjoyed raising and showing lambs and beef steers where he received many awards. Mr. Bennett was a 55 year member of the Uriel Masonic Lodge #23 A. F. & A.M., Merrow, CT, after moving to New York he joined the Newport Lodge # 455 F. & A.M. Bill was a volunteer at the Kuyahoora Valley Food Pantry and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors besides his wife of nearly 65 years, Gloria, include a daughter, Jennifer (Michael) Klossner of Fairfield; a son, Jeffery Bennett of Pittsburgh, PA; a granddaughter, Allison Bennett and fiancé Alex Christie; a sister, Carol Ellis; and special nephews, Edwin Jackopsik, Donald, Peter and Ronald Bennett. William was predeceased by a brother, Rene Bennett; and two sisters, Shirley Mitchel Desco and Dorothy Jackopsic.
A private graveside service will be held at Newport Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no public calling hours.
